The Outpost, a 4-star sanctuary perched on an escarpment in the far north of South Africa's Kruger, offers arresting panoramic views of ancient baobabs, sizable elephant herds, and abundant fever trees.
Wilderness View Suites
Each room at The Outpost functions as a gateway to a private piece of paradise with retractable screens providing 180-degree uninterrupted wilderness views. The main bedroom features a private balcony overlooking the Luvuvhu River, while Bush View Spaces are set lower on the rocky ridge flanking the main lodge.
Dining and Refreshments
Guests can enjoy wine and champagne provided complimentary in each suite's minibar. The property offers full meal service with sundowners and snacks during game drives.
Safari Activities
In-room spa treatments are available from a carefully designed menu. The Outpost provides game drives, walking safaris, and star-gazing opportunities in the Makuleke Contractual Park, a vast wilderness of approximately 26500 hectares known for exceptional birding including the elusive Pel's Fishing Owl.
Secluded Northern Location
Located in the northernmost corner of Kruger National Park on the border with Zimbabwe and Mozambique, the lodge sits atop a rocky ridge. The remote positioning ensures extremely low guest and vehicle density in an area featuring some of the largest fever tree forests in the Southern Hemisphere.

My stay at The Outpost in northern Kruger NP was simply spectacular! We got upgraded to Pel's Post, where the luxury and the views over the Luvuvhu River were beyond anything I could have imagined. The staff was attentive and the game drives with our guide Samuel were super informative, especially about birds. While the wildlife sightings were less frequent, the beauty and serenity of the surrounds made up for it. Overall, an incredible experience, albeit a bit remote for some tastes.

My stay at The Outpost was a mix of breathtaking views and some significant drawbacks. The location is absolutely stunning, providing a genuine wilderness experience. The service from our game guide was exceptional, but the state of our initial room left much to be desired. Although the dining options were generally good, the cleanliness of the accommodations and the value for the price paid were not satisfactory.

My stay at The Outpost was truly memorable, thanks to the stunning views, excellent service, and comfortable accommodations. The rooms offer an exceptional experience with breathtaking sights over the valley, but some minor issues like noisy air conditioning and drainage problems could use some attention. The dining was enjoyable, with a nice variety of meals and snacks provided throughout the day. However, a billing issue at the end of my stay was a bit of a letdown. Overall, it's a fantastic choice for a safari getaway.
